Overview

Our client is seeking an empathetic and knowledgeable Injury Management Consultant to join their Brisbane CBD team. This is a part time opportunity for 24 hours across 3 days per week, for a 12-month period. You will be part of a collaborative, supportive network that values your expertise and offers ongoing training, and a culture built on compassion and teamwork.

If you are passionate about occupational health, thrive in environments where your interpersonal skills shine, and want to contribute to positive outcomes for both individuals and organisations, this role will provide you with the platform to excel.

What you'll do
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain comprehensive rehabilitation and return-to-work plans for injured workers in accordance with best practice guidelines and relevant legislation.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 as well as privacy regulations when managing sensitive information related to injury cases.
  • Regularly review claim durations and progress by conducting timely file reviews and engaging in open discussions with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Respond promptly and thoughtfully to enquiries from stakeholders such as claims consultants, council representatives, employers, medical practitioners, and allied health professionals.
  • Collaborate closely with line managers regarding complex or protracted claims to ensure optimal outcomes for all parties involved.
  • Assist employers in developing effective return-to-work programs by collating and interpreting medical advice alongside rehabilitation recommendations.
  • Provide clear case notes, closure documentation, mentoring, and training support to Return to Work Coordinators (RRTWCs) within councils as required.
  • Recommend appropriate services from external providers based on evidence-based practices while monitoring service delivery quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate records of rehabilitation activities using data management systems while also compiling statistical data on claims for reporting purposes.
  • Advise employers on injury prevention strategies by reviewing policies regularly, identifying trends affecting claim frequency or duration, and developing practical resources such as guidelines or training materials.
What you bring
  • Demonstrated experience in injury management or occupational rehabilitation within a public sector or similar environment where empathy and communication are paramount.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation such as the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 along with privacy laws governing sensitive information handling.
  • Proven ability to develop tailored rehabilitation plans that address individual needs while balancing organisational objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling you to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including claims staff, council representatives, medical practitioners, allied health professionals, employers, and injured workers themselves.
  • Excellent written communication skills for preparing detailed case notes, closure reports, policy updates, training materials, and correspondence with stakeholders.
  • Competence in using computer systems including Microsoft Office applications as well as specialised data management platforms for tracking rehabilitation activities.
  • Capacity for analytical thinking when reviewing claim progress or identifying trends impacting workplace injuries; able to interpret complex medical or legislative information accurately.
  • Experience providing mentoring or training support to colleagues or clients-particularly Return to Work Coordinators-in order to build communal knowledge bases within teams.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional registration (e.g., AHPRA) where applicable along with ongoing professional development participation.
  • A background in Psychology or Occupational Therapy would be advantageous.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are encouraged to apply.
