Construction Superintendent, Electrical - Memphis

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars. SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next. CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT, ELECTRICAL Most construction jobs manage someone else’s crew on someone else’s schedule, then end when the project does. This one does not. SpaceX builds its own launch sites, factories, test stands, and AI superclusters — and it plans to keep building. The rockets, the chips, and the missions only matter if the ground under them is real. Construction is how that ground gets built, in-house and to a standard the company can actually use. The work does not dry up between jobs. There is a next site, and one after that. You lead the crew that builds them. You own a self-performing team. Foremen run their people day to day. You run the foremen. You are in the dirt, walking the work, setting the bar, and clearing whatever is in the way. When someone is ready for more, you say so. When the standard slips, you deal with it. Scope includes, but not limited to underground duct banks, high-voltage and medium-voltage systems, power distribution, grounding, lighting, and process power for mission-critical facilities. The team goes where the next site is — a pad, a factory, a supercluster, whatever has to exist before the rest of the company can move. Right now that is Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS. Then it is the next one. Per diem comes with the assignment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly oversee foremen and, through them, a large self-perform electrical crew installing underground duct banks, conduits, cable, terminations, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, PDUs, and grounding Set clear expectations for safety, quality, schedule, and conduct, and hold foremen and crews accountable when those expectations are missed Remove roadblocks so crews can keep working: materials, access, sequencing, coordination with other trades, and decisions Recommend promotions, role changes, and corrective action based on performance Plan and run the night-shift assignment, including extended hours, as part of a 24/7 operation Keep electrical installations on SpaceXSI’s quality and reliability standards, including code compliance and system integrity required for data center uptime Track daily progress and maintain logs, red-line drawings, and as-built documentation for power infrastructure Build and hold an aggressive construction schedule, on time and within budget Champion SpaceXSI’s safety program and a zero-incident culture around energized equipment, excavations, and heavy electrical work Resolve on-site issues — material delays, technical conflicts, sequencing, and trade coordination — with attention to reliability and code compliance Inspect work for compliance with local regulations, electrical codes, safety protocols, and SpaceXSI quality standards Report progress, electrical construction metrics, and risks to senior leadership Relocate with the mobile team as assignments change, starting in Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalency certificate 3+ years leading electrical construction teams, including supervision of foremen 3+ years of direct hands-on experience in electrical installations, including underground duct banks, high-voltage/medium-voltage systems, cable pulling and terminations, switchgear, and power distribution PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Experience leading large self-perform crews on industrial or mission-critical electrical projects Direct hands-on experience on industrial processes or heavy power projects Postsecondary diploma or degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field Track record on data centers, hyperscale facilities, or similar mission-critical electrical construction Familiarity with Memphis-area building codes, NEC, NFPA 70E, and industrial permitting Experience with Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar tools on complex infrastructure work Strong grasp of electrical critical path, sequencing, and coordination with mechanical and civil trades through commissioning Understanding of data center electrical specifications, redundancy, grounding, and power systems built for 24/7 operation History of leading diverse crews to a deadline without giving up collaboration or safety Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, LOTO, and arc flash, and a record of building a safety culture on regulated sites Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution on technically complex electrical work Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Project) ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Subject to pre-employment drug screening and random drug/alcohol testing, and pre-employment/post-employment background checks This role is part of the mobile construction team and you will be expected to travel to the assigned work project. Current work assignment is based in Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS. Future assignments will require relocation to other U.S. construction sites. Per diem is provided while on assignment Must be willing to work any shift, extended hours and/or holidays during assigned work assignment. This includes rotating shifts, nights and/or weekends. If you are assigned night shift, you will receive a shift differential for hours worked during off nominal hours Must be willing to work in industrial environments with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, excavations, and energized electrical systems. Must be able to lift 25 lbs+ unassisted and perform physically demanding tasks outdoors/indoors, tight conditions and/or at heights SpaceXSI is an equal opportunity employer.
