THE ROLE:
AMD is seeking a director-level leader to establish and lead test hardware manufacturing enablement and production deployment within the Test Solutions Technology organization. This leader will build and manage a geographically distributed team located across AMD’s major manufacturing sites. The organization will be responsible for enabling scalable, production-ready test hardware and equipment solutions across AMD’s global manufacturing network.
The role will partner closely with Hardware Development, Test Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality and OSAT engineering teams, test-equipment suppliers, and other strategic manufacturing partners. This leader will connect early hardware and test-solution development with production qualification, capacity readiness, deployment, and sustaining execution.
A critical component of the position is ensuring that our OSAT partners are prepared to successfully ramp AMD’s NPI equipment and test solutions. The successful candidate will lead the transfer of AMD’s unique engineering requirements and product-specific equipment into manufacturing, ensuring partner teams develop the technical capability, processes, and operational readiness required for successful production ramps. The role will also identify and drive improvements to equipment features, software, tools, and operating processes that increase availability, OEE, utilization, serviceability, and production efficiency.
This leader will establish clear performance expectations, lead technical and operational reviews, coordinate cross-company improvement initiatives, and drive timely resolution and escalation when equipment readiness or partner execution places AMD’s manufacturing objectives at risk.
THE PERSON:
The successful candidate is an experienced engineering and operations leader with a strong background in semiconductor test hardware, manufacturing enablement, and external-partner management. They combine technical credibility with disciplined operational leadership. They can evaluate complex hardware and manufacturing challenges, translate product requirements into scalable production solutions, and align geographically distributed teams around clear priorities and measurable outcomes. They are comfortable working directly with senior leaders at equipment suppliers, OSATs, and other strategic partners. They build productive long-term relationships while maintaining clear accountability for schedule, quality, cost, capacity, and technical execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build, lead, and develop a geographically distributed engineering and manufacturing-enablement team located across AMD’s major manufacturing sites.
- Establish clear roles, priorities, operating mechanisms, and performance expectations across the global team.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to define best-practices to enable production deployment and management of the test equipment fleet across various OSAT production locations.
- Interface with OSATs to define and monitor KPIs and processes to ensure production-worthy test solutions.
- Responsible for identifying & mitigating test challenges and executing large projects and processes in a timely manner.
- Responsible for managing a team providing professional development and project management guidance.
- Develop organizational capability through talent development, coaching, succession planning, and effective deployment of resources across manufacturing priorities.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Extensive experience in semiconductor test, hardware engineering, manufacturing engineering, equipment engineering, product engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience managing and developing geographically distributed engineering, manufacturing, or operations teams.
- Significant experience leading semiconductor hardware or equipment introduction from development through qualification, production deployment, and sustaining.
- Strong technical understanding of semiconductor test hardware and equipment, including one or more of the following: ATE, burn-in systems, system-level test, load boards, probe solutions, sockets, handlers, thermal systems, or associated automation.
- Demonstrated experience enabling complex hardware or equipment solutions in a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment.
- Experience working directly with OSATs, test-equipment companies, hardware suppliers, or other outsourced manufacturing partners.
- Demonstrated ability to manage strategic supplier relationships, conduct executive-level reviews, influence partner priorities, and lead critical escalations.
- Strong program and operational management skills, with demonstrated accountability for schedule, quality, capacity, cost, and execution.
- Ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed, global organization and align teams without relying solely on direct organizational authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical and business issues to executive audiences.
- Preferred experience implementing metrics, digital tools, or automation to improve equipment-fleet management and manufacturing execution.
- Familiarity with data-center, high-performance computing, AI, graphics, or other complex semiconductor products.
- Fluency in Mandarin preferred Additional language proficiency, including Mandarin, would be advantageous for regional stakeholder engagement.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or comparable technical disciplines
