ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.
At AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world’s most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future.
Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career.
THE ROLE:
As a CPU Cores Performance Lead, you will provide technical and team leadership for performance development of AMD’s next-generation CPU cores. You will lead a local team of talented performance engineers while playing a key leadership role within the broader CPU Core Performance organization.
You will work at the leading edge of processor technology, partnering closely with Core Architecture, RTL, Design Verification, Physical Design, and other Performance teams to drive performance analysis, optimization, and execution for future CPU cores. You will help translate ambitious performance goals into measurable engineering objectives, identify opportunities and bottlenecks, and drive the team toward successful execution.
This role combines local performance team leadership with significant technical leadership for next-generation CPU core performance, providing an opportunity to shape both the architecture and execution of AMD’s future CPU roadmap.
THE PERSON:
You are a strong technical and people leader who enjoys solving complex CPU performance problems and developing high-performing engineering teams. You approach challenges with persistence, curiosity, and a bias toward results, combining critical thinking, creativity, and data-driven decision making.
You are comfortable working across organizational and geographic boundaries and can build strong partnerships with Architecture, RTL, DV, Physical Design, and other engineering teams. You communicate clearly, know how to turn complex technical problems into actionable priorities, and can drive execution when the path forward is not obvious.
Most importantly, you are passionate about CPU performance and enjoy working with talented engineers to push the limits of what the next generation of processors can deliver.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a local CPU Core Performance team focused on performance analysis and optimization for next-generation CPU cores.
- Provide technical leadership for next-generation core performance, helping drive performance strategy, priorities, analysis, and optimization throughout the development lifecycle.
- Partner closely with Core Architecture and RTL teams to deliver CPU cores that meet or exceed program performance objectives.
- Collaborate across Performance Modeling, Architecture, RTL, DV, Physical Design, correlation, and post-silicon teams to identify and resolve performance opportunities and bottlenecks.
- Drive performance investigations from initial hypothesis through analysis, root-cause identification, optimization, and validation.
- Establish clear performance objectives and metrics and drive execution against program goals.
- Represent the local Performance team in core program reviews and cross-functional technical discussions.
- Develop engineers through coaching, technical mentorship, clear priorities, and increasing levels of technical leadership and responsibility.
- Contribute to broader CPU Core Performance strategy and execution across AMD’s next-generation CPU roadmap.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Extensive experience in CPU performance analysis, optimization, architecture, or performance modeling, with demonstrated delivery of measurable CPU performance improvements.
- Experience leading engineers or significant cross-functional CPU performance efforts.
- Strong working knowledge of CPU performance development, including areas such as early performance investigation, Core Architecture, performance modeling, analysis and correlation, RTL optimization, and post-silicon performance validation.
- Demonstrated ability to identify performance bottlenecks, develop hypotheses, analyze complex workloads, and translate findings into actionable architecture or implementation changes.
- Strong understanding of modern CPU microarchitecture and the performance interactions across front-end, execution, memory subsystem
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering preferred.
LOCATIONS:
- Austin, Tx; Other AMD locations such as Santa Clara, CA; Fort Collins, CO; Fishkill, NY; or Boxborough, MA are options.
