Join us in our mission to transform the way people shop and eat, where impact, innovation and growth drive everything we do. Our Engineering teams tackle complex technical challenges across a global, three-sided marketplace, building and scaling systems that serve millions of customers, riders and merchants every day. From real-time logistics to resilient infrastructure and marketplace optimisation, we design, build and operate technology that powers Deliveroo’s (& Doordash’s) growth at scale. We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Event Streaming Systems team. This is a hybrid role. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership for the event streaming infrastructure that powers business-critical workflows across Deliveroo, DoorDash and Wolt. You’ll help define the long-term direction of our messaging and streaming platforms, lead high-impact technical initiatives across teams, and raise the reliability, scalability and operational excellence bar for Tier-0 infrastructure. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll be joining the Event Streaming Systems team within the broader Storage organisation. Deep hands-on experience with Kafka or comparable event streaming systems as a platform, infrastructure service or business-critical production dependency. Strong technical leadership skills, with a track record of defining technical direction, shaping roadmaps and leading multi-engineer or cross-team initiatives. Ability to make and own technical decisions in ambiguous situations, using data, operational signals, customer needs and long-term system health to guide tradeoffs. Strong coding ability in Java, Go, Python or similar languages, with a focus on reliable, maintainable, observable and scalable production systems. Experience improving production reliability through automation, observability, capacity management, incident response, operational readiness and sustainable on-call practices. Strong distributed systems fundamentals, including Linux, networking, storage, JVM-based systems, fault tolerance, backpressure, capacity planning and performance tuning. A force-multiplier mindset: you create leverage through reusable technical foundations, clear documentation, strong engineering practices, mentoring and removing single points of failure. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence platform, infrastructure, product and reliability teams without relying on authority. Nice to have Experience contributing to Kafka or related open source distributed systems. Experience with Redpanda, WarpStream, AutoMQ, Pulsar or similar streaming technologies. Deliveroo
Senior Software Engineer, GenAI Platform
London, United Kingdom - Deliveroo
Our Global Structure Deliveroo is now part of DoorDash, bringing together teams with even greater reach, scale, and ambition. Depending on your role, you may collaborate with teammates, systems, and leaders across DoorDash and Wolt. Together, we’re unlocking new possibilities as one global team. Senior Software Engineer, GenAI Platform About the Team Deliveroo's GenAI Platform team sits within Machine Learning Platform and builds the shared infrastructure that helps DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo teams safely bring GenAI-powered products, agents, automation, and personalisation to production. Our mission is to increase the velocity of business impact from GenAI. A central pillar of that work is running frontier open-weight LLMs and VLMs (such as GLM, Qwen, Kimi, and DeepSeek) ourselves — real-time GPU serving, high-throughput batch inference, and fine-tuning on autoscaling GPUs — delivering large cost and latency wins (for example, a billion embeddings produced roughly 20× cheaper and visual models served roughly 72% cheaper). We also own core platform surfaces including the LLM Gateway, Agent Gateway, evals infrastructure, guardrails, and cost attribution. About the Role You will join a small, high-leverage team building production infrastructure for Generative AI at Deliveroo and DoorDash, leading the design and architecture of our open-weights model platform spanning inference and fine-tuning: real-time GPU serving, high-throughput batch inference, and model fine-tuning. You’ll set technical direction across model serving and inference engines, fine-tuning and training pipelines, GPU autoscaling and utilization, batch pipelines, backend services, and observability, and mentor engineers as you go. This role is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys owning ambiguous, high-impact systems and pushing the cost/performance frontier of GPU inference and fine-tuning in a fast-moving technical area where product needs, model capabilities, vendor ecosystems, and cost/performance tradeoffs are evolving quickly. You’re excited about this opportunity because you will… Lead the design of infrastructure that helps teams move GenAI ideas from prototype to production, increasing the velocity of business impact from AI across the company. Own and evolve our open-weights serving stack — real-time GPU endpoints, high-throughput batch inference, and fine-tuning (SFT/DPO/LoRA) — alongside the LLM Gateway, Agent Gateway, evals infrastructure, guardrails, and cost attribution. Architect scalable, high-performance systems for model serving, batch inference, GPU autoscaling, and fine-tuning that power real customer and internal automation use cases Push the cost and latency frontier of GPU inference — turning batch jobs that took days into hours and cutting inference cost by multiples — while giving product teams a clean choice across open-weight and closed-source models with reliability, fallback, observability, and cost controls built in. Build platforms that support rapid experimentation while meeting production standards for latency, scale, monitoring, SLOs, playbooks, and operational excellence. Partner closely with — and raise the technical bar for — ML engineers, product engineers, data scientists, and platform teams across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo to turn emerging GenAI capabilities into durable platform primitives. Set technical direction for the future of the company's centralised GenAI platform — including emerging directions such as reinforcement learning (RLHF/RLVR), agent optimisation, and other post-training and agentic techniques — enabling the next generation of AI-powered products, agents, automation, and personalisation. We’re excited about you because… BSc, MSc or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent 5+ years of industry experience in software engineering Deep backend engineering fundamentals, especially in Python and distributed systems. Track record of designing and owning production services, APIs, data pipelines, or ML infrastructure at scale. Experience operating systems in production, including observability, debugging, reliability, incident response, and performance/cost optimization. Deep hands-on experience with LLM inference and/or fine-tuning of open-weight models in production — serving (latency, throughput, batching, autoscaling, GPU utilization) and/or fine-tuning (SFT/DPO/LoRA). Demonstrated technical leadership: leading design across ambiguous, fast-moving technical areas, mentoring engineers, and turning customer use cases into reusable platform capabilities Proficiency in using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) in the full software development lifecycle, including designing, generating code, testing, monitoring and releasing software Nice To Haves Experience with LLM inference engines and serving frameworks (e.g., vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT-LLM) in production Experience with distributed/multi-node fine-tuning and training pipelines (SFT, DPO/RLHF, LoRA), including data preparation and evaluation GPU performance work — multi-node/distributed inference, KV-cache/memory optimisation, quantisation (FP8/INT8/AWQ/GPTQ), or cold-start/throughput tuning Experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), GPUs, serverless/elastic GPU platforms (e.g., Modal), or high-throughput batch systems Experience with LLM gateways, model routing, vendor abstraction, or cost attribution Experience building developer platforms, internal platforms, or self-serve infrastructure Experience building and deploying AI agents or MCP servers in production Experience with eval systems, LLM observability, tracing, RAG, search, or vector databases Diversity, Equity and Inclusion At Deliveroo, we know that a great workplace reflects the world around us and that true diversity and inclusion make us stronger, more creative, and better at what we do. Deliveroo
Staff Software Engineer, Dev Environments
London, United Kingdom - Deliveroo
Our Global Structure Deliveroo is now part of DoorDash, bringing together teams with even greater reach, scale, and ambition. Depending on your role, you may collaborate with teammates, systems, and leaders across DoorDash and Wolt. Together, we’re unlocking new possibilities as one global team. The Dev Environments team sits within DoorDash's Foundations group (Platform Engineering). We own the local and remote developer experience across the DoorDash group of companies supporting over 5000 engineers. Our mission is to enable engineering velocity, quality, and efficiency at significant scale by removing friction from the day-to-day developer loop: spinning up a working environment, getting code building, and getting feedback fast, whether the "developer" is a human or an AI agent. As a Staff Engineer on Dev Environments, you'll be recognised as an expert across the dev environments space, covering both local and remote dev flows, devcontainers, IDE/remote backends, and how they all fit together, including owning accountability for outcomes that span multiple teams. You'll set technical direction for the team's roadmap, unblock deep cross-cutting technical problems other engineers can't resolve alone, and mentor senior and mid-level engineers. You'll partner closely with engineering leadership across the group to translate ambiguous, company-wide developer-experience problems into a concrete, sequenced technical strategy. What You’ll Be Doing Technical direction Define the architecture for how thousands of engineers across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo actually develop and ship code: local and remote dev containers, remote IDE/VM lifecycle, and the full local-to-remote loop. Build monorepo dev tooling at scale. It's part of consolidating all the companies under DoorDash’s umbrella onto one global backend - you're setting the standard, not patching one org's tooling. Provision production-shaped environments in seconds, keep state in sync over the network, and make a remote machine feel local, reliably and cheaply, at thousands-of-concurrent-engineers scale. Expect to invent as much as you adopt: much of this is genuinely unsolved elsewhere in the industry. Design for AI agents as first-class consumers of the environment, not an afterthought: sandboxes that spin up on demand, run in parallel, and are safe to hand a real repo. Support agents launched from an IDE, a CLI, or a Slack message - with no laptop required to review and ship what the agent did. Collaboration & leadership Align teams that don't naturally sit adjacent to each other (e.g. Security, Infrastructure, Product Engineering) around unstructured, ambiguous problems where there's no existing playbook. Mentor engineers at all levels: run design reviews; raise the engineering bar through code review, pairing, and architectural guidance when appropriate. Help set the hiring bar: lead interview loops, help calibrate, and support onboarding of senior hires. What You’ll Need to Thrive Essential: A track record of shipping production systems and leading cross-team initiatives with group level impact - comfortable owning delivery end to end, from design through to production and adoption. Hands on fluency with the languages and tooling used to build developer tooling (e.g. Go, Python, TypeScript) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform). Experience managing compute via Kubernetes (multi-tenant workload isolation, autoscaling ephemeral workloads, cost management), or lightweight VM/sandbox technology (e.g. Firecracker). Working knowledge of cloud networking, including securely and cost-effectively routing traffic across network boundaries (VPNs, service meshes, etc.) Experience integrating LLM/AI tooling into developer workflows - e.g. Claude Code - both locally, and remotely. Excellent written and verbal communication; able to influence senior stakeholders and align multiple non-adjacent teams without formal authority over them. Experience building close working relationships with the engineering teams who consume your platform, not just the platform team itself. Nice to have: Experience in developer platforms or adjacent infrastructure: devcontainers, remote development, remote IDE backends, or developer workstation tooling. Practical experience with JetBrains remote-backend flows, Codespaces/Codeserver-style products, or equivalent. Experience with remote build/execution systems (e.g. BuildBuddy), or large-scale build caching. Why Join Us? Deliveroo
Senior Technical Programme Manager - Money
London, United Kingdom - Deliveroo
Our Global Structure Deliveroo is now part of DoorDash, bringing together teams with even greater reach, scale, and ambition. Depending on your role, you may collaborate with teammates, systems, and leaders across DoorDash and Wolt. Together, we’re unlocking new possibilities as one global team. About the Team At DoorDash we’re building the industry’s most scalable and reliable delivery network to support our three-sided marketplace of consumers, merchants, and dashers. TPMs on our Engineering teams provide fundamental support to the underlying technology services as well as the engineers building these services. It’s no simple task, but it wouldn’t be interesting if it was! About the Role Money is DoorDash’s organisation responsible for the financial products and infrastructure that enable transactions across DoorDash, Wolt and Deliveroo. The domain owns how consumers pay, how merchants and couriers are paid, and how money is recorded, reconciled and reported, covering payment processing, payment methods, payouts, invoicing, financial ledgers and regulatory compliance. We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to help scale Money Domain. You will lead important engineering wide initiatives across Invoicing Platform, Payment Instruments, amongst others; working with Engineering, Product, Operations, and business leaders to deliver dependable, scalable Money capabilities for the business. Programs will span backend services, partner and merchant integrations, and regulatory / compliance products. They require strong technical judgment, cross organisational coordination, stakeholder management, and ownership of results. You will report into the centralised global Technical Program Management team in Engineering, through a manager based in London. This is a hybrid role based in our London office in Cannon Street. You're excited about this opportunity because you will… Drive Money Domain’s Most Strategic Programs - You will partner closely with Engineering and Product leadership, Strategy & Operations, and cross-functional teams to turn Money Domain’s strategy into executable technical programs. Lead Complex Cross-Organization Execution — Money Domain interacts with capabilities across consumer, merchant, courier, order and enterprise domains, payment processing, payouts, fraud and risk, regulatory compliance, accounting, financial data and platform infrastructure. You will establish clear ownership and milestones, surface critical dependencies and tradeoffs, and drive alignment across teams when the path forward is not obvious. Bring Technical Depth and Systems Thinking - You will develop a deep understanding of the architecture, integrations, data flows, and operational systems behind Money Domain (Financial Systems). You will engage in technical designs, identify scaling and reliability risks, understand how decisions in one part of the system affect end-to-end consumer, rider/ courier, and merchant experiences, and help teams make pragmatic tradeoffs. Turn Ambiguity into Strategy and Action - Many of our hardest problems do not begin with a clean scope or a single owner. You will truth-seek across technical and business inputs, frame the problem, clarify the definition of success, develop a point of view on risks and options, and create an execution path that teams and leaders can align behind. Connect Engineering Execution to Business Outcomes - You will understand the merchant, partner, customer, and economic outcomes behind the work and use that context to guide prioritization and execution. We're excited about you because… You’re experienced in working with engineering teams on large-scale distributed systems and/or b2b products. You can speak to system architecture, scalability and reliability decisions, and design trade offs. You’re a strong leader with the ability to collaborate and build relationships across organizations, bridge gaps between teams, and successfully influence without authority. You have strong ownership, urgency, and drive. You are willing to roll up your sleeves and dive into the details to understand and drive your programs. You have excellent written & verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with confidence, clarity, and focus. You can convey concepts and considerations to non-experts and experts alike. You’ve engaged with Engineering teams on product & platform development with a thorough understanding of software development processes and project planning. You are pragmatic and detailed in your approach and focus on progress, not perfection. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree with experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering or other related discipline. 5+ years recent experience as a Technical Programme Manager at a technology/ FinTech company, in Financial Systems. Experience with regulatory compliance in Financial Systems, e.g. SOX, PSD2, or equivalent would be an advantage. Experience in large-scale distributed systems and system architecture. Experience working directly with engineering teams on product development, with a thorough understanding of software development processes, system architecture, and scalability trade-offs. Project planning and execution skills that include reviewing technical design documents, estimating, and scheduling. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion At Deliveroo, we know that a great workplace reflects the world around us and that true diversity and inclusion make us stronger, more creative, and better at what we do. We’re committed to fostering an environment where everyone can do their best work and feel they belong.
