Job Title

Payroll Coordinator / Team Leader
Location: Inner CBD Melbourne (Hybrid)
Salary: $70 - $78 per hour + superannuation
Contract: Temporary full-time contract (ASAP start)

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of P&C, the successful candidate will manage and administer our client's payroll services for the Council. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the relevant enterprise agreement, awards, and legislation. This position also oversaw the administration of the Aurion Payroll system and leads a team of two Payroll Officers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the end-to-end fortnightly payroll process for over 1000 employees, ensuring compliance with the EA, superannuation, and taxation obligations.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and ongoing development to a team of two Payroll Officers.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Aurion payroll system, providing specialist support, training, and managing system upgrades.
  • Ensure all employee data, including new starters, terminations, leave requests, and superannuation details, are processed and maintained accurately.
  • Prepare and produce various payroll reports for internal departments and external bodies such as the ATO and ABS.
  • Interpret and apply conditions from the Enterprise Agreement, relevant awards, and Council policies.
  • Provide effective and responsive service to internal and external customers, resolving enquiries with accurate advice.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Extensive experience as a Payroll Manager or in an equivalent team leader role within a computerised payroll environment.
  • Essential: Extensive experience with Aurion payroll software.
  • A proven track record in payroll compliance, audits, and governance.
  • Strong understanding of employment-related laws, Fair Work regulations, Taxation Legislation, and Superannuation.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Enterprise Agreements and Awards.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience within local government is highly desirable.
