The Department for Energy and Mining is seeking an exceptional leader to join its Regulatory Risk and Resource Tenure Branch as General Manager, Energy Resources Licensing. This is a rare opportunity to influence the strategic direction of upstream energy regulation and land access frameworks critical to the state's energy transition and economic development. This position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of legislation, policies, and programs governing licensing and land access.
Overseeing a high-performing team of five, you will provide authoritative advice to government, support critical legislative reform, and engage with industry and community stakeholders, ensuring transparency, compliance, and innovation across the sector.
About YouIn addition to strong leadership capability, we are seeking someone who can bring:
- Proven leadership experience in regulatory, compliance or legal services, preferably within government or the energy/resources sector.
- Expertise in upstream energy resource legislation, particularly the Energy Resources Act 2000, Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Act 2023, and associated Acts such as Native Title Act 1993, Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006, and others.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to influence across government and industry, manage change, and provide authoritative, solution-oriented advice.
- Demonstrated ability to work confidently in complex, politically sensitive, and evolving environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including with Traditional Owner groups, industry representatives, and the broader community.

QualificationsDesirable: Qualifications in management or legal related discipline are highly desirable.
RemunerationMAS3 $127,859 per annum + superannuation
Full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week
- This is a contract/term vacancy up to 12 months.
- A current drivers licence is required.
- This position is classified as a designated position and as such, appointment to this role will be subject to a satisfactory National Police Clearance screening check.
