About the role

The Senior Project Officer leads the use of design and systems thinking approaches to co-design initiatives that address complex workforce challenges. The role drives collaborative problem-solving and strategic project delivery to shape innovative, sustainable workforce solutions aligned with the department's strategy for public education and enterprise priorities. The position brings strong project management capability and applies evidence-based insights, contemporary research and deep stakeholder engagement to design and deliver high-impact, future-focused workforce solutions. These solutions span but are not limited to building a strong and sustainable teacher workforce through improved teacher supply and attraction strategies, reducing educator workload, and enhancing the overall employee experience.

The role works collaboratively with key internal staff across the department, professional associations and school leaders to co-design and implement initiatives. This inclusive engagement ensures that diverse perspectives and on-the-ground expertise inform the design and development of innovative, practical workforce design initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Co-design and implement workforce initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply design and systems thinking to address complex workforce challenges.
  • Lead projects with strong delivery and governance, guided by evidence and research.
Qualifications

Essential: Nil

  • Desirable: A tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline such as design, project management, education policy or equivalent experience

Special conditions

The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to employment, which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.

The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN-EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

Remuneration

ASO7 $108,109 - 116,864 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (12%) and leave loading
