Join the Environmental Health Directorate at the Department of Health and be part of something rewarding.
Science Graduates and Practicing Professionals are encouraged to apply for this pool.
The Environmental Health Directorate (EHD) is seeking to establish a pool of suitably qualified Scientific Officers. EHD includes a range of units who employ Scientific Officers (SC1). These units are Food, Water, System Performance, Science and Policy, Biological and Applied Health Hazards and Chemical Hazards. This pool may be used by these units when positions become available over the next 2 years.
We are seeking a range of science technical knowledge and skills to meet our diverse services and programs. These include understanding of water quality, toxicology, food science, and mosquito entomology. EHD also needs skills across policy, emergency management and regulation. Applicants can identify which areas of science they have knowledge and skills in, and do not need to have them across all technical areas of EHD.
The Environmental Health Directorate has a crucial role in managing environmental health matters at a statewide level. We deliver a diverse range of activities, including the administration of 5 Acts and 26 subsidiary regulations. As a trusted regulator, community educator and capacity builder, we work together with state and local governments and industry to protect the health and safety of the WA community.
The successful applicants will be expected to liaise with team members and work on a range of environmental health programs and projects relevant to the unit they are working within.
Ideal candidates will have good written and verbal communication skills with an ability to build and maintain positive working relationships. You will have high attention to detail and good organisational skills, with the ability to work in a team environment and on a range of activities.
The pool is for specified calling SC1 roles and therefore a relevant science degree is an essential criterion to be appointed to the pool and to a position.
