The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is Australia's tropical marine research agency. Our research guides the management of iconic marine ecosystems and provides high-quality, large-scale, and long-term research used by governments, industry, and the community.

About this Opportunity

AIMS's Oceanographic Scientists support Australia's Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS). You will provide high-quality time series data streams from the IMOS moorings array through calibration, data processing, and analysis. You will work in laboratory and field environments, supporting scientific research through the application of your scientific and technical expertise.

Responsibilities and Benefits

  • AOF Level 3 to 4 Salary ($64,793 to $94,034 per annum) depending on qualifications, skills, and experience.
  • 15.4% superannuation
  • Generous leave provisions
  • Full-time, 3-year opportunity
  • Located in Townsville, Queensland

About You

You will have achieved a degree in physics, mathematics, physical oceanography, engineering, or equivalent technical expertise in a related field. You will be familiar with a wide variety of marine instrumentation and have experience in:

  • applied understanding of oceanography
  • experience in MATLAB and/or Python computer programming, data analysis, and database applications
  • commitment to Occupational Health and Safety practices and principles
  • organisational skills to manage field-work logistics, planning, and scheduling
