The Role

As an APS 5 Intelligence Assessment Analyst, you will research and analyse complex issues of national importance in support of Australia's defence and security. You will think strategically about events around the world, to consider their implications for Australia. You will work collaboratively with your team and other counterparts to apply rigorous tradecraft and produce intelligence assessments. You will engage with customers to understand their requirements and objectives, and ensure your communication of assessments is clear and unambiguous. Successful candidates will benefit from specialised training as well as opportunities to engage with National Intelligence Community, broader Defence and international partners to build professional networks.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.

About our Team

As Defence's all-source strategic intelligence assessment agency, DIO provides decision advantage to Defence and whole-of-government customers on issues of significance to Australia's defence and security. Our analytic teams are responsible for anticipating events that impact Australia's interests and articulating the risks and opportunities these present. We conduct research and analysis to deliver timely intelligence assessments to decision-makers, in support of National Defence Strategy objectives.

Our Ideal Candidate

Intellectually curious and driven to advance Defence's mission, our ideal candidate thinks strategically about global events and their implications for Australia's defence and security. An APS 5 Intelligence Analyst works independently and also in team setting, and can manage competing priorities to deliver timely assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate a wide range of information and intelligence sources to inform intelligence assessment products, identify issues and provide recommendations and advice to management and appropriate stakeholders.
  • Understand and utilise analytical tools and techniques to develop Defence and national security-related intelligence assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders to deliver tailored intelligence assessments in verbal and written formats.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and organisational activities.

Remuneration and Benefits:

  • $86,887 - $93,066 + 10% BDCP + up to 15.4% Superannuation
  • Location: Canberra - ACT
