Title: Straddle Crane Operator Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: MUST be able to work 2nd shift and weekend. This is NOT a day position.
Crane Operators at Veritas Steel are responsible for performance of various operator/laborer duties. Operators must also adhere to company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Uses proper safety equipment to ensure surfaces are adequately prepared for all operations:
Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
Manipulates or depresses crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
May attach load to hook or other crane accessory prior to operating crane and be designated Crane Operator-Hooker (steel & rel.)
Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
Performing only those jobs on which they have been trained and/or authorized.
Using required personal protective equipment
Reporting unsafe conditions or practices
Making safety suggestions
Cooperating during investigation of any accidents that occur
Taking an active part and participating in safety meetings, pre-job safety briefings, task hazard analyses and Job Safety Analyses.
Scope
Reports directly to their lead person and works closely with other welders on a daily basis.

Physical Requirements
oAble to lift 40 pounds and carry 30 pounds
oMust be able to push /move objects up to 50 pounds of force
oNecessary to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel up to 99% of shift
oMust have good range of motion when reaching forward, shoulder to overhead, and bending
oAgile fingers and thumbs on both hands
Working Conditions
Work at Veritas Steel is performed indoors in a large warehouse and outside in all weather conditions. There is regular exposure to dirt, dust, paint fumes, noise, moving equipment, heavy steel, and other possible hazardous conditions.
Earplugs, hardhats, respirator, safety glasses and steel-toed boots with metatarsal guards are required.
