About the Department

The department is committed to keeping Queensland communities safe. Everyone deserves a life free from violence and fear. We are actively tackling the complex causes of youth crime and addressing serious repeat offenders and ensuring our systems and services not only meet but anticipate the needs of victims. We do this by providing:

  • Early intervention, statutory Youth Justice, and detention services to ensure that young people are held accountable for their offending behaviour.
  • Support to young people to become responsible members of the community through programs and community partnerships, which foster the achievement of positive life outcomes.
  • Trauma informed support and resources to victims to ensure they can recover and heal, whilst ensuring the voices and experiences of victims are heard and respected.

We employ an inclusive culture that respects and promotes human rights and diversity. We respectfully journey together to aspire to be the most culturally capable youth justice and victim support agency in the nation. We are an inclusive, equal employment opportunity employer and place value on our diverse workforce. We encourage applicants representing all genders, ethnicities, ages, languages, sexual orientations, and people with disability or family responsibilities to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Deliver components of core programs, whilst working alone or in team settings to support and reinforce the Service Response Plan as developed by Youth Justice Caseworkers.
  • Provide supervision and support to young people and ensure delivery of high quality service in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures, and contemporary best practice.
  • Consult and negotiate with relevant stakeholders including other government and community agencies, service providers and families on behalf of young people to design, implement and enhance their access to services, including support networks, in accordance with the young person's service response plan.
  • Provide supervision and culturally appropriate individual and family support to young people to assist with their compliance with bail, court orders and reintegration into the community, in accordance with the young person's service response plan.
  • Participate and contribute productively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team involving a range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality casework and case management outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge relevant to the role and actively participate in appropriate learning and development processes.
  • Prepare and maintain accessible and clear case records consistent with departmental case management requirements, to assist service response planning and reviews, and attend these meetings as required.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator/Team Coordinator in developing weekly roster of work for young people subject to supervised orders and bail programs in accordance with the young person's service response plan.
  • Conduct regular audits of service delivery sites and program equipment to ensure appropriate safety requirements are met and program activities are conducted safely.
