Teaching Assistant - Secondary Alternative Provision

Location: Chesterfield, Derbyshire (S41)
Pay: £90 - £105 per day
Hours: Full-time Mon-Thurs 8:30am-4:20pm Fri 8:30am-3:50pm Term-time only
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long-term to permanent
Note: Due to the role and location, a driving licence and access to a vehicle is highly desirable.

Role

We're working with a 'Good' Ofsted-rated Alternative Provision in Chesterfield, supporting students aged 11-16 who have been excluded from or are unable to access mainstream education. With small class sizes, high staff-to-student ratios, and a therapeutic approach, this provision focuses on re-engaging students, building resilience, and encouraging personal development.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing structured 1:1 and small group support, both academically and emotionally

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation through trauma-informed strategies

  • Building trust and strong relationships to promote engagement and personal growth

  • Supporting reintegration pathways for students moving back into mainstream education

  • Collaborating with teachers, SEN teams, and therapists to deliver tailored learning plans

  • Monitoring progress and contributing to regular reviews and feedback sessions

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH or behavioural needs

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to high-need environments

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
