Kimberley Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (KMS) is a 50/50 joint venture between Sheffield Resources Limited and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd (Yansteel). The Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project (Thunderbird) is located mid-way between Derby and Broome, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Thunderbird is one of the largest and highest-grade zircon mineral sands deposits in the world and contains valuable heavy minerals including ilmenite, zircon, leucoxene, and rutile, which are extracted and exported via the Port of Broome.

About the RoleResiding in the West Kimberley, reporting to the Superintendent Integrated Planner, the Senior Mine Geologist is responsible for providing sound geological information, interpretation and advice, in addition to leading a team of Mine Geologists, Pit Technicians and relevant contractors to complete all geological tasks in an efficient, safe and accurate manner.
Site Based Roster: 4 days on, 3 off (Bus in, Bus out from Broome)
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate geology activities across the site
- Plan, design & supervise all drilling programs, cost control & QA/QC for sample collection and interpretation of results
- Produce 3D geological models as required
- Ensure geological data being recorded and reported is accurate
- Create, distribute and supervise ore blocks / mining flitch plans
- Drive development and continuous improvement of processes
- Hold a current WA C-Class driver's licence
- Hold a tertiary qualification in Geology
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role with exposure to leading, managing and mentoring employees from diverse backgrounds
- Exposure to mineral sands operations, particularly ilmenite and zircon
- Deswik and Surpac software
- Experience with Q-GIS
