Senior Legal Counsel

CoStar Group is a leading global provider of commercial and residential real estate information, analytics, and online marketplaces. In 2025, Domain became part of CoStar Group, bringing together a large portfolio of property brands in Australia. This 12 month parental leave opportunity is for a Senior Legal Counsel who will partner with key Domain stakeholders to ensure legal compliance across day to day operations.

Role Overview

This role will partner with business stakeholders across Domain, providing legal support to ensure day to day operations are legally compliant and that commercial initiatives are delivered in a legally sound and commercially viable manner.

Responsibilities
  • Identify legal risks in commercial proposals and concepts, working closely with stakeholders to achieve commercial goals while remaining legally compliant.
  • Understand commercial principles and provide legal advice that is legally sound, practical, and commercial.
  • Review and negotiate data specific contracts, including data licences, data sharing agreements, and technology contracts such as MSAs, SaaS agreements, and general service agreements.
  • Advising on the practical application of current and upcoming privacy laws in relation to Domain's products and services, including in commercial partnerships.
  • Consider and advise on use cases and any applicable parameters or restrictions on the use of data.
  • Offer guidance on misleading and deceptive conduct, unfair contract terms, undertaking product reviews and attending to front end dispute resolution.
  • Support the legal team with a range of tasks as the business evolves, maintaining a balance between independence and collaboration in a small team.
Requirements & Skills
  • 5-8 years of experience in a reputable law firm, ideally within a Digital and Technology team.
  • Prior in house experience (permanent or secondment) is highly regarded but not essential.
  • Experience with digital or data driven businesses and strategic data initiatives is advantageous.
  • Strong technical knowledge in contract law, privacy law, and consumer law.
  • Strong commercial acumen and business focused mindset.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills across teams.
  • Attention to detail, ability to thrive in a fast paced environment, and a positive team player attitude.
  • A qualified lawyer (LLB or JD) admitted to practise in Australia.
