About us

ANU Advancement leads university-wide efforts to foster meaningful and sustainable relationships with ANU alumni, donors and the broader community. We secure long-term philanthropic investment while ensuring the effective management of existing funds and maintaining accountability to our donors.
Our work directly supports the University's vision, mission and strategic objectives, responding to evolving priorities and areas of greatest need. ANU Advancement's mission is to build enduring connections with our community by aligning the passions of generous supporters with the University's exceptional work and impact.

Position overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a curious and analytical professional to join our Prospect Intelligence team and play a vital role in supporting ANU's fundraising success. The Prospect Research Officer will support our University's efforts to sustain and increase funding from individual, corporate and foundation donors.

Reporting to the Prospect Intelligence Manager, you will focus on optimising Philanthropy portfolio management, identifying and prioritising suitable prospects, and providing insights that help facilitate the health of our prospect pipeline. You'll work in close partnership with fundraisers and other colleagues across the University to ensure they have the intelligence they need to build meaningful relationships with potential donors.

Your research and analysis will encompass giving potential, inclination, history of involvement, sector trends, and matching with projects and programs in need of funding. This work requires curiosity, sound judgement, initiative and bigger-picture thinking to identify relevant risk factors and opportunities.

Our ideal candidate

To be successful in this role, you will have relevant qualifications and demonstrated experience in researching and analysing information using a wide range of biographical, organisational and financial sources. You will be proficient in digital research methodologies and experienced with database management systems (particularly Blackbaud or similar fundraising/CRM platforms).

You will possess highly developed analytical and conceptual skills, with the ability to interpret and synthesise research data and extract meaningful insights. Your intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and comfort working with both qualitative and quantitative information will be essential.

You will have strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the University, compile complex information accurately, and work to multiple deadlines with minimal supervision. Critically, you will demonstrate good judgement and discretion in handling sensitive and highly confidential materials.
