Ready for your next big challenge? Step into a key leadership role managing high-impact defence sustainment projects.
The Client
Our client is a leading provider of advanced engineering and integrated solutions to high performance commercial and government sectors. With operations across the Asia-Pacific and North America, they design, build and support complex, mission-critical vessels for some of the world's most respected operators. In Australia, the organisation is delivering several large-scale, high-visibility programs for key government agencies and commercial partners.
A rare opportunity exists for an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex sustainment programs, with a focus on in-service support and asset maintenance. This role offers full ownership of multi-disciplinary projects, where you'll drive outcomes that meet or both contractual and client expectations.
Your role
- In this role, you will:
- Lead a cross-functional project team to deliver against scope, budget, and schedule requirements while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Establish and optimise team performance, ensuring resourcing levels are balanced for cost efficiency and operational delivery.
- Drive daily and long-range project activities through the development and implementation of a master schedule and milestone planning.
- Apply and oversee robust project management methodologies, tools, and reporting systems, including Earned Value Management (EVM).
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to build a high-performance team culture aligned with project and business goals.
- Maintain clear communication channels with internal and external stakeholders to manage expectations and resolve issues proactively.
- Monitor and report on key project metrics, including Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and Cost Performance Index (CPI), to maintain transparency and control.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and defence-related standards and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience as a Project Manager delivering complex engineering or sustainment projects within defence, shipbuilding, or a related sector.
- Strong leadership and team-building capabilities with experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Formal qualifications in engineering, project management, or a relevant technical discipline.
- Certification in project management methodologies such as PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent (highly regarded).
- Proven capability in Earned Value Management (EVM), risk management, scheduling, and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a strong customer focus.
- Eligibility for an Australian Baseline security clearance (must be an Australian citizen).
This is a career-defining opportunity to be part of a high-profile defence program with a recognised industry leader. You will join a collaborative and forward-thinking organisation where you can make a tangible impact.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Long-term career development in a secure and growing industry.
- Opportunity to work on complex, nationally significant defence programs.
- Supportive team environment that values initiative, leadership, and innovation.
- Flexible work arrangements and a strong focus on safety and employee wellbeing.
To ensure compliance with Australian employment law, this role is only open to candidates who possess either the right to work in Australia, permanent residency, citizenship status or visa status.
