The PRN Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and coordinating the hospice volunteer program. This includes recruiting, training, scheduling, and supporting hospice volunteers to ensure they are equipped to serve patients and families in alignment with the hospice philosophy of care. The role also supports administrative program development and community engagement to promote volunteer involvement. 1-2 days per week. Reliable transportation required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan and supervise the delivery of all volunteer services
  • Assign volunteers based on program needs and volunteer skills/interests
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours and activities
  • Recruit, interview, and select hospice volunteers
  • Design, implement, and oversee volunteer orientation and training
  • Monitor, support, and evaluate volunteer performance
  • Ensure volunteer compliance with hospice policies and procedures
  • Facilitate volunteer support meetings and ongoing engagement
  • Attend IDG meetings and serve as liaison between volunteers and the care team
  • Assist in building community awareness and promoting volunteer opportunities
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in and/or deliver in-service education as assigned
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and all hospice policies

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required
  • Training: Completion of Hospice training program
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of related field experience preferred
    • Prior volunteer program experience strongly preferred
  • Licensure: Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current auto liability insurance
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional stability
    • Ability to work independently and respond appropriately in crisis situations outside of a hospital setting
    • Flexibility and adaptability to diverse social, cultural, and religious backgrounds
    • Excellent judgment and organizational skills

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Minimal physical effort required most of the day; must be able to assist in lifting/transferring a 100-pound patient if necessary
  • Exposure to environmental elements such as odors, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials
  • Ability to cope with emotional stress and maintain mental resilience in end-of-life care environments
  • Annual TB test and compliance with any other required screenings

Work Hours & Compensation:

  • PRN schedule based on program needs and events
  • Mileage reimbursement for travel
