Position InformationAlma Public School, situated in Broken Hill, is on the traditional lands of the Wilyakali people. It is a dynamic school that serves a diverse student population, with 36% of its 291 students identifying as Aboriginal.
The school places a strong emphasis on Aboriginal education, utilising the expertise of Aboriginal staff members and the presence of its dedicated Aboriginal identified preschool, Alma Bugdlie. Students are also engaged in learning about the Paakantji language P-6.
The school's strategic directions are focused on student growth and attainment as well as school and community connections. The school has a strong wellbeing focus for each individual student.
Alma Public School places a strong emphasis on fostering positive relationships among staff, students, and families, recognising their vital role in supporting student learning. With a dedicated team of over 50 staff members, including specialists in learning support and Aboriginal education, the school maintains high expectations for all students. The values of respect, responsibility, and resilience are central to the school's culture.
The leadership team includes five assistant principals, with an assistant principal for Curriculum and Instruction, who focuses on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes. Together, the executive team works to build staff capacity in implementing best practices. The school provides a range of learning environments, including access to Alma Oval for sports, a yarning circle, and a kitchen and garden program that equips students with important life skills.
The Parents & Citizens Association (P&C), Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) and various community groups are active and supportive partners that contribute to, and strengthen, learning and well being programs for our students.
Specific Selection Criteria- A highly visible and approachable leader, skilled in uniting the entire school community around a clearly defined, shared vision and driving the successful execution of a comprehensive and ambitious school improvement agenda.
- Demonstrated expertise to lead evidence based, innovative teaching practice across every classroom to support the developmental needs of all learners connected to explicit teaching and a differentiated curriculum that maximises learning outcomes for all students.
- Well developed skills and ability to foster and enhance a positive whole school wellbeing strategy that leads to all students understanding their responsibilities to ensure a safe and creative learning environment.
- Proven ability to build authentic collaborations with students, parents, staff, and the broader community-including strong engagement with Aboriginal communities and AECG-to strengthen educational partnerships and enhance learning, wellbeing, and Closing the Gap outcomes across a K 6 setting.
- High-level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education.
- Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs.
- High-level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community.
- Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning.
- Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning.
- Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P2 for 2025 and Principal Level P2 for 2026.
