Position InformationNewcastle East Public School is an inner-city primary school with a proud tradition of delivering high-quality education to its community for more than two centuries. The school aims to support every child in achieving their potential and prepare them for life and future learning.
In 2025, there are 258 students enrolled. This includes 6 Aboriginal students and 72 students who have a language background other than English. Our Family Occupational and Education Index (FOEI) of 16, indicates a low level of socio-economic disadvantage.
Students participate in a wide range of learning experiences in the pursuit of academic improvement and excellence. A plethora of high potential and gifted education opportunities across the social-emotional, creative, physical and intellectual domains are offered to students.
The staff is highly motivated and professional and use evidence-based practices in explicit teaching, HPGE and equity for excellence to lift academic results in literacy and numeracy and raise academic achievement. The school will undertake External Validation in 2026
Specific Selection CriteriaApproval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

- 2. Demonstrated experience to lead a shared vision, fostering a positive and inclusive culture that motivates a highly accomplished, committed staff-supporting their professional growth, promoting leadership aspirations and driving excellence across the school.
- 3. Demonstrated experience to prioritise and lead evidence based practices and innovative resourcing to improve student engagement, academic achievement and attendance.
- 1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
- 2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
- 3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
- 4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
- 5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
- 6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2025 and Principal Level P1 for 2026.
