HammondCare is an independent Christian charity specialising in dementia care, palliative care, and rehabilitation, specialist mental health for older people and other health and aged services.

Role

HammondCare pastoral care volunteers have an opportunity to support the spiritual and emotional needs of the elderly clients living in their home. As a pastoral care volunteer, you'll be actively involved with a local Christian church.

Speak the language of comfort and care, share faith and friendship in Hindi.

We are looking for a compassionate Hindi speaking pastoral care volunteer to visit a lovely woman once a week for one hour. Originally from Fiji and now living with her son and daughter in law, she finds deep comfort in hearing the Bible read and being prayed for.

A gentle presence and heartfelt words in Hindi would bring her great joy and spiritual connection.

You'll supplement and complement the work of our HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator, and under their direction you may:

  • Support people to meet their spiritual needs
Skills and qualifications

Skills required for this role:

  • High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills.
  • Pastoral Care training for example Chaplaincy, Clinical Pastoral Education, or you could attend HammondCare pastoral care training- Spiritual Care Series, in preparation to becoming a pastoral care volunteer.

Volunteering along side Pastoral Care can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated.

Requirements

18 years or older • National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare •

We'd be happy to discuss a suitable time during the week for a one hour visit between 9am and 4pm Monday to Sunday, visits could be weekly to fortnightly depending on your availability.
