RoleAttendance required for this role will be for 5 hours per day, 2 days per week.
Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.
Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
This role will involve;
- Responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the school's OH&S systems in line with Department of Education (DET) requirements, providing a high level of support to the Principal Team, staff, and students.
- Maintain accurate OH&S records and data to support compliance, reporting, and evidence-based decision-making for the school.
- Support the school's strategic planning and implementation of OH&S initiatives, forward planning, and emergency management strategies.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Principal and Facilities Manager to develop and implement short and long term OH&S plans that align with school operations.
- Manage the work practices and priorities of support staff in a school/s.
- Manage the maintenance of confidentiality in respect to all school records and communication systems.
- Possess knowledge of current OH&S Regulations and Codes of Practice relevant to the role.
- Ensure compliance with all DET, WorkSafe, and legislative OH&S requirements across the school
- Promote a positive, proactive, and safety-focused culture across the school community.
- Liaise effectively with staff, leadership, contractors, and the broader school community in accordance with DET policies and guidelines.
- Identify workplace hazards, assess associated risks, and coordinate the implementation of effective control measures
- Identify and participate in professional development to maintain current knowledge of OH&S legislation and best practice.
- Provide practical recommendations and improvement strategies to address safety risks or audit findings.
- Ensure that all work areas comply with established safety procedures and risk control measures.
- Demonstrate effective time management, prioritising compliance tasks and safety actions according to risk and urgency.
- Maintain all OH&S registers, records, and documentation, complete administrative tasks including data entry, audits, and reports.
- Liaise with DET, VSBA, and external agencies regarding OH&S compliance, incidents, and reporting where required.
- Lead and participate actively as a member of the OH&S Committee, ensuring follow-up and communication of outcomes.
- Develop and implement a schedule of safety audits, inspections, and compliance checks in collaboration with the Facilities Manager.
- Conduct regular safety inspections to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Oversee OH&S compliance of contractors and tradespersons in consultation with the Assistant Principal and Facilities Manager.
- Record and maintain safety-related data within AIMS and DET systems as required.
- Ensure all contractors meet DET OH&S requirements, including induction, risk assessments, and asbestos management protocols, in partnership with the Facilities Manager.
- Review and approve contractor safety documentation, ensuring works comply with OH&S standards and cause minimal disruption to school operations.
- Work collaboratively with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Facilities Manager to achieve the school's safety and compliance objectives.
