Ford & Stanley Talentwise are currently on the search for experienced Technicians with the resilience and flexibility to become a Mobile Rail Plant Maintainer for a niche rail plant engineering company focusing on the maintenance and servicing of rail plant / MPV s / rolling stock / rail traction vehicles and wagons.
This will involve maintaining rail plant machinery at a variety of different sites around the UK. Focusing on specialist wagon units, completing tasks on multiple systems including, hydraulics, pneumatics, pressurised and chemical storage systems with electrical controls.
The Opportunity
With full training provided this is the opportunity to transfer skills from different industries (HGV, PSV, Aerospace, Automotive, Plant, Agricultural) and become and develop key skills required in the UK rail industry.
This role is integral to maintaining and developing key client relationships, ensuring that the rail plant machinery is fully functioning and in service at all times.
Once fully trained this role is standalone, allowing the successful candidate the opportunity to take charge of their work day and organise their own workload.
As a mobile technician, this role offers the opportunity to visit multiple rail locations throughout the UK.
Location
Mobile, with the main areas of work being Kent, Southern Essex, Norfolk, York and Wigan.
Ideally candidates will be based locally to one of these locations, however, all candidates will be considered provided they are happy to complete the travelling required by the role.
Role and Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance as described on job cards.
- Report faults as they become apparent.
- Carry out running repairs to ensure the rail plant stays in service at all times.
- Refuel and replenish chemicals used on the rail plant
- Keep the rail plant in a clean operational condition.
- Complete all paperwork for maintenance accurately.
- Complete all tasks safely in line with rail safety standards
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have hands on experience as a Maintenance Technician, working on pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems.
Dual skilled in both mechanical and electrical disciplines in a necessity, however qualification in one discipline is acceptable.
Candidates must have a keen safety focus and a strong aptitude for problem solving and thinking outside the box. As this role will often be stand alone, candidates must be able to work to their own initiative and maintain strong self-motivation to complete tasks.
Experience will ideally be within a transportation background, with a need to have found and rectified faults within pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems.
Essential Criteria
- Level 3 qualification in a suitable field/ Level 2 with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- A strong knowledge of schematics (air, hydraulic and electrical).
- Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment.
- Flexibility in regards to working and staying away from home.
Working Patterns
- Shifts will vary in length and vary in locations.
- 5 shifts per week, covering both week days and weekends 1 rest day in the week, 1 rest day at weekends. Rotas released well in advance.
- Seasonal changes in work, with different programs of maintenance will mean varied start and finish times.
- Overtime available.
The Package
- OTE earning of £49,000 to £51,000 ( including shift allowance, bonuses, overtime etc)
- Payments for non-working travel days
- Subsistence for food and drink whilst working away (non-taxable)
- Work van with personal use available (must ask permission)
