Mandarin/Cantonese-Speaking 1:1 Teaching Assistant - BarnetFull-time Secondary School Immediate Start Long-Term Opportunity
Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a fluent Mandarin or Cantonese-speaking Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a student within a secondary school in the London Borough of Barnet. This full-time position offers an immediate start and has strong potential to become a long-term or permanent role for the right candidate.
The Role:As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will support a secondary-aged student who speaks Mandarin or Cantonese and requires additional help to access the curriculum and engage fully in school life. You'll play a key role in both academic and pastoral support, acting as a language and cultural bridge to help the student succeed.
Key responsibilities include:

Providing personalised 1:1 support to a student with limited English and/or additional needs

Using Mandarin or Cantonese to aid understanding and communication where appropriate

Assisting with classwork, ensuring the student remains engaged and supported

Supporting the student's emotional wellbeing and social integration

Collaborating with teaching staff, SEN professionals, and the student's family

Monitoring progress and contributing to reviews and support planning

Fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese, with strong spoken and written English

Experience supporting children or young people, ideally within a school or educational setting

A patient, understanding, and culturally aware approach to learning support

Confidence working 1:1 with students who may have additional learning or emotional needs

A valid enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Access to over 2,500 CPD courses via The National College
