Job Description

As a HammondCare Biography Writing or Editing volunteer in Western Sydney your listening and writing skills will allow HammondCare community clients to record their stories, memories, and messages for loved ones.

Help write a chapter in someone else's book!

Join us in documenting the rich life of a gentleman who loves sharing stories about his family, faith, and history. He lives at home with his wife and enjoys company, conversation, and visits that brighten his day. The client speaks both Mandarin and English, so volunteers who speak either language are warmly encouraged to apply. Volunteer and help preserve a legacy.

Responsibilities
  • Write or edit biography chapters documenting a client's life, memories, and messages for loved ones.
  • Conduct interviews (face-to-face, evenings possible) and transcribe conversations using transcription software.
  • Support the client's storytelling while respecting their preferences and cultural background.
Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • 50 words per minute typing skills
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve
  • Own car to drive to the client's home
  • Willingness to learn new technology and software; experience with Dictaphone and transcription software is a plus
  • Availability for a long-term commitment and up to 5 hours per week
Requirements
  • 18 years or older
  • National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare
  • One hour face-to-face interview Monday to Friday between 9am-4pm
  • Transcription can occur during evenings or weekends
Impact

Volunteering as a social visitor can be a rewarding experience for both the client and the volunteer. Regular visits can help improve quality of life and reduce isolation, and visits will bring great joy to the client you are matched with.
