Situated north-east of Wagga, NSW, this family-owned farming business seeks a passionate and skilled individual to join their team as a full-time Leading Hand. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to excel within their cropping and meat sheep enterprises, with the potential for future advancement into a cropping management position.

The Employer

Karrawarra Pastoral is a fourth-generation family business encompassing 3,700 hectares across five properties, supplemented by two additional leaseholdings. Its agricultural pursuits include 1,600 hectares dedicated to cultivating cereals, canola, pulses, and pasture developments.

The pastoral enterprise maintains a self-replacing commercial meat flock of 10,000 head, utilising Highlander and FocusPrime genetics. Additionally, they manage 1,500 stud ewes, producing 400 rams for their annual sale.

The Role

The Leading Hand will play a crucial role in Karrawarra Pastoral's day-to-day operation, with cropping as the primary focus. This position demands a proactive individual with strong leadership qualities, a deep understanding of the full cropping cycle, and an understanding of sheep health and husbandry. The leading hand will ensure efficient workflow and maintain high standards across the business enterprises.

This successful candidate will be responsible for implementing safety protocols, fostering teamwork, and supporting Karrawarra Pastoral's success. Adaptability and informed decision-making are crucial.

The Offer

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and proficient within the cropping sector, be experienced with sheep, and have an overall passion for agriculture, and possess the following:

  • Mechanical skills
  • Capable of independent work and possesses a strong work ethic
  • Proven interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to contribute effectively within a team environment
  • Competent operation of various farm machinery/equipment
  • Investment in long-term farm and career goals
  • Efficiency, reliability, and the ability to problem solve and be organised
  • HC or HR truck license is essential
