Empirical Solutions is seeking an experienced IT Technical Lead (Engineering Manager) to provide strategic direction, architectural oversight, and engineering leadership across complex ICT environments. This is a senior, hands-on role for a professional who excels at driving innovation, integrating cloud and legacy systems, and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver secure, high-impact technology outcomes.

You will lead the design, integration, and delivery of enterprise-grade, cloud-centric systems, blending systems engineering expertise with strong leadership and governance capability.

What You'll Be Doing

As an IT Technical Lead, you will:

• Provide strategic and technical leadership across ICT architecture, systems engineering, and integration
• Lead the development of enterprise-wide solution architectures aligned with organisational and operational goals
• Oversee the specification, design, and delivery of complex ICT systems that integrate cloud services, legacy platforms, and emerging technologies
• Direct engineering teams spanning cloud infrastructure, DevSecOps, and cybersecurity domains to ensure delivery excellence
• Manage technical resources and vendor engagement to achieve seamless integration and performance outcomes
• Champion innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practice
• Develop and implement enterprise architecture frameworks, aligning technical execution with strategic direction
• Mentor and upskill engineering staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and technical excellence
• Establish test and evaluation gates to ensure quality, compliance, and security assurance
• Maintain oversight of ICT security governance and risk management in line with Australian government standards and frameworks

What We're Looking For

We welcome applications from professionals who bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, IT Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Demonstrated experience leading delivery of cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and ICT systems engineering
• Proven leadership in engineering management, technical direction, and team development
• Hands-on experience in DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and secure cloud operations
• Strong understanding of ICT governance, risk, and security assurance
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Current or eligible security clearance (minimum NV2)

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

You'll be highly regarded if you also bring:

• Experience delivering secure ICT systems in Defence, government, or critical infrastructure contexts
• Familiarity with certification and accreditation processes within high-assurance environments
• Understanding of enterprise architecture methodologies and cloud adoption frameworks
• Experience authoring technical documentation, architectures, and solution roadmaps
