Make a meaningful impact by supporting people leaders and employees across a large, diverse organisation. Support the delivery of high-quality HR operations and help shape a responsive, data-driven People & Culture function at the City of Canning!

We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented HR Advisor to join our People & Culture team, supporting the execution of HR, employee relations, and compliance initiatives. The role is a key to ensuring the integrity of our HR systems and data, while providing expert support to our People & Performance Business Partners and People Leaders across the organisation.

About the role

As an HR Advisor, you'll play a vital role in supporting the City's operational HR functions, including employee relations, performance management, HR data analysis, and compliance. You'll work closely with Business Partners to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions, maintain accurate records, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our HR systems and processes.

What you'll be doing:
  • Supporting Business Partners with HR advice and documentation for performance management, grievances, and compliance
  • Assisting with onboarding, contract variations, higher duties, and general employment matters
  • Maintaining and optimising HR systems including OneCouncil and digital learning platforms
  • Drafting employment documentation and correspondence in line with City policies and industrial agreement
  • Coordinating the Performance Appraisal Review process and supporting People Leaders
  • Analysing HR data and trends to inform reporting and strategic decision-making
  • Preparing reports for regulatory and benchmarking purposes (e.g. EEO, PSC, salary surveys)
  • Supporting recruitment activities and the coordination of work experience, traineeships, and apprenticeships
  • Ensuring accurate record keeping and data integrity across all HR systems
  • Contributing to employee experience initiatives and People & Culture projects
What you will bring to the role:

You're a detail-driven and adaptable HR professional who thrives in a dynamic environment. You bring a strong foundation in HR operations and a passion for supporting people leaders with practical, compliant, and data-informed solutions. You'll bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, Employee/Industrial Relations, Psychology, Business, or Commerce (or working towards)
  • Solid experience in HR advisory roles, including performance management and grievance support
  • Strong understanding of industrial instruments, employment legislation, and HR policy frameworks
  • Experience working with payroll-related matters and HR systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, professional documentation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience in extracting, analysing, and presenting HR data to support decision-making
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality
  • Current National Police Clearance
