The Head of Legal serves as a key member of the country leadership team and is pivotal in providing high-quality legal advice and services to Liva. The Head of Legal will identify and prioritize legal risks to protect the business and ensure compliance with the relevant legal and regulatory obligations. Collaborating with the leadership team and legal team to assess the impact of legal and regulatory changes on business activities and provide expert guidance on all aspects of law. Responsibilities encompass managing corporate transactions, handling disputes and ensuring legal compliance throughout the organization.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Leading the provision of high-quality legal advice and services to Liva, ensuring legal risks are identified, prioritized, and resourced to protect the business and ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory obligations, requirements, and standards.
- Work with the country leadership team, legal and compliance colleagues to assess and advise on the impact of legal and regulatory changes on business activities and/or the legal implications of proposed business activities and transactions.
- Provide leadership and ensure delivery of required standards and ensure provision of legal support to the businesses.
- Contributing to the development and achievement of the business strategy and performance targets for the business.
- Providing expert legal advice, services, and guidance, either directly or through external providers, on all aspects of law, to ensure business is always compliant.
- Ensuring the legal and regulatory compliance aspects of corporate transactions and/or restructuring exercises are managed correctly; up to and including leading negotiations, coordinating the provision of external advice, ensuring compliance with relevant legal and Stock Exchange rules and Group L&C requirements.
- Managing disputes and issues of non-insurance claims litigation to ensure country business interests are protected and potential loss and damages are mitigated.
- Monitoring legal and regulatory developments, assessing the likely business impact and/or making representations or contributing to consultative exercises.
- Delivering legal operating plans and budgets to ensure the use of internal and external resources are optimized to meet business requirements.
Monitoring the delivery of legal advice and services to the business, from internal and external sources, acting as necessary to ensure services are appropriate, effective and offer value for money.
Requirements
- An LL.B. degree, or equivalent, with and qualified to practice law.
- At least 10 years of working experience in a reputable private sector law firm and / or with an international/regional financial organization will be an advantage but not mandatory.
- Worked in matrix organizational structure and independent decision making.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders - Board of Directors, CEOs, Country Leadership Team
- Arabic Language is a must.
- Energetic professional with robust business acumen.
- Proficient in corporate management with a strong level of competency.
