Position Overview

The Fundraising & Engagement Assistant will play a key role in supporting Fernwood NH's signature fundraiser, the Gift of Good Food, as well as other engagement initiatives. This position combines administrative, outreach, and creative responsibilities, including volunteer coordination, donor relations, and social media content creation. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, enthusiastic, and comfortable interacting with diverse community members, volunteers, and donors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit and support fundraising teams for campaigns.
  • Manage the fundraising website platform, ensuring team pages are accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain communication with fundraising teams to provide guidance and support.
  • Organize volunteers for poster distribution, donation letter campaigns, and auction pick-ups.
  • Contact volunteers from past campaigns and recruit new volunteers.
  • Track and map letter delivery for volunteers, board members, and self-directed outreach in Fernwood.
  • Distribute posters and donation letters to partners, sponsors, donors, and community locations.
  • Conduct outreach to businesses for donations, auction items, and campaign promotion.
  • Follow up with businesses and community partners via email or phone.
Online Auction Support
  • Assist with auction item pick-ups and coordination with the Volunteer Lead.
  • Photograph donations and write descriptive content for online auction platforms (e.g., ).
  • Upload auction items and manage online listings.
Social Media & Communications
  • Develop and execute social media content to promote fundraising campaigns.
  • Take photos, create graphics, and post to social media according to the Communications Calendar.
  • Interview donors, staff, and recipients to create engaging content for online channels.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience in fundraising, volunteer coordination, or community engagement preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, etc.) and creating simple graphics.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members.
  • Enthusiasm for community engagement and the mission of Fernwood NH.
Working Conditions

Flexible work schedule; may require occasional evening or weekend commitments.

Combination of office-based, remote, and community-based work.

Ability to lift and carry materials (posters, donation packages) as needed.

Fernwood Neighbourhood House is a unionized workplace, and this position is part of the BC General Employees' Union (BCGEU) bargaining unit. We are currently negotiating our first collective agreement. The compensation package for this role reflects current wages and benefits, with adjustments anticipated once the collective agreement is finalized.

Please note that following the ratification of the collective agreement, union dues will be deducted from employees' pay in accordance with the terms outlined in the collective agreement and BCGEU policies.
