In this role, you will be responsible for providing oversight and expert investigation into suspected fraudulent activity, ensuring effective, detection, analysis and recovery outcomes. The role drives proactive risk identification through data led insights, strengthens fraud protection across customer accounts, and fosters collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to protect the bank and its customers. This role reports to FRX and Utility Manager directly.
Your main responsibilities will include:- Manage incoming fraud reports submitted via the Fraud Reporting Exchange (FRX) from external financial institutions, ensuring timely assessment and appropriate case handling. Prepare and issue outbound fraud reports to assist with the recovery of funds on behalf of impacted HSBC customers, adhering to internal procedures and regulatory timeframes.
- Conduct utility and proactive investigative work by leveraging internal systems and tools to detect patterns of unusual or suspicious activity on customer accounts. This includes analysing transactional behaviour, identifying potential fraud or scam indicators, and escalating findings for further review or mitigation in line with established fraud risk protocols.
- Manage payments relating to cases managed by the Fraud Team, ensuring that all transactions are accurately recorded, approved and processed in compliance with internal controls.
- Perform reconciliation activities for fund movements in relation to accounts owned by the Financial Investigation Management (FIM) team, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to audit and compliance standards.
- Take immediate action to mitigate risks on accounts linked to fraudulent activity
- Bachelor's degree in a Finance and/or business related field.
- Relevant experience in Fraud and Investigations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with retail banking systems and the ability to extract, analyse data and problem solve
- A strong focus on quality and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
