Purpose / ObjectiveEmployment Advisors volunteer in the ASC Employment Hub, providing one-on-one support to people seeking asylum as they strive to achieve their employment, training and education goals.
Reports toEmployment Coordinator
Commitment PeriodMinimum 6 months, 5 hours per week
Duties & Responsibilities- Support people who attend the ASC Employment Hub to develop resumes and cover letters, utilising ASC templates
- Link people with relevant internal and external supports or services as appropriate
- Provide assistance from a people-centred and strengths-based perspective
- Record the details of your meetings in our database and keep records updated
- Regularly check ASC emails to stay up to date with Centre news and process updates
- A sound understanding of the Australian job seeking and employment landscape
- Experience with resume, cover letter and application writing
- Strong customer service and communication skills including active listening, relationship building, problem solving, efficiency, empathy and collaboration
- Experience in working with people from various backgrounds and cultures
- An understanding of issues affecting people seeking asylum in Australia
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, trauma-informed practice
- Excellent computer skills; confidence using Google products (Mail, Calendar and Drive) and confidence using (or willingness and ability to learn) how to use a database
- Ability to work collaboratively and thoughtfully with other team members
- Flexibility and willingness to think outside the box and take initiative
- Ability to adhere to our code of conduct and boundaries and confidentiality policies
- Strong prioritisation and time management skills, and attention to detail
- Experience in coaching, mentoring and/or training is beneficial

- Comply with Work, Health and Safety systems
- Comply with Incident Management Procedures and emergency protocols
- Demonstrate respectful and welcoming behaviour with all people at ASC in culturally appropriate ways
- Undertake a NSW Working with Children Check before commencement and ensure it is up-to-date
- Support a child-safe organisation by undertaking screening for suitability to work with children and vulnerable people and to comply with relevant state/territory legislative requirements
