An opportunity has arisen to join our team at ESNEFT, across both Colchester and Ipswich hospital with the primary role sitting in the Urology, General Surgery and Gastroenterology CDG. Your specialist interest in Endometriosis, robotic reconstructive surgery spans the women's service, you will have a 50:50 split job plan.
This is a busy and expanding Urology Department providing a comprehensive range of elective and emergency urological services across both Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals, within ESNEFT.
We deliver the full spectrum of general and specialist urology, including stone disease, andrology, female and functional urology, prostate cancer diagnostics and treatment, bladder cancer, and upper tract oncology. Sub-specialisation is encouraged within the department.
Main duties of the jobAll consultants in the department have a continuing and individual responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and a general responsibility to provide, in conjunction with their colleagues, an effective service to meet the needs of local people within the resources available.
The postholder will:
- Provide consultant-led urology and gynaecology reconstructive services across Ipswich and Colchester.
- Contribute to outpatient clinics, theatre lists, ward care, and on-call rota (1:9)
- Support education and training of junior doctors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in audit, clinical governance, and research.
- Undertake supporting professional activities including CPD, appraisal, revalidation, and clinical supervision.

Job responsibilitiesThe key duties and responsibilities are:
- General responsibilities including participation in the consultant on-call rota
- Operating as per specialty
- Teaching
- Other care of inpatients or outpatients
- Clinical and other administration as required by agreement
- Teaching and training of junior staff and undergraduates
- Participation in clinical governance
- Entry on specialist register (or entry expected within six months)
- FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Urology
- Broad-based training in general urology, including emergency urology and core sub-specialty areas (e.g., stone disease, oncology, andrology, female and functional urology)
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
- Educational/ clinical supervisor (the necessary training will be provided for applicants that have not undertaken these roles previously)
- Additional higher degree (MD/PhD)
- Recognised fellowship training in a urological sub-specialty (e.g., robotic or reconstructive urology)
- Evidence of advanced experience in robotic or minimally invasive urological surgery
- Management training and experience
- Residence within a reasonable commuting distance of Ipswich or Colchester Hospitals
