The Volunteer's Role

As a volunteer, you will help design and implement communication strategies that amplify LGBTQIA+ voices in the Caribbean. You will also turn research findings and advocacy initiatives into impactful communication products, supporting the Building Bricks project, which operates in eight countries to promote rights and gender equality in the region.

As a volunteer, you will:

Design and execute communication plans to showcase project successes and advocacy objectives.Produce content for various digital platforms, including newsletters, press releases, reports, and campaign materials.Enhance the social media presence and interaction for our partners.Strengthen the skills of local staff in strategic communications, messaging, and storytelling for advocacy.Facilitate strategic engagement with donors.

Terms and Conditions

Cuso International's terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle similar to local living standards. This support package will cover basic living expenses for one volunteer and is not intended to cover home-based expenses (eg. loans, support payments, etc.) or luxury items such as imported items in placement or international personal travel.

Accommodations You will receive fully furnished housing arranged by Cuso International's local program office for your placement. The accommodation includes essential items (stove, refrigerator, furniture, etc.) and amenities (water, electricity), similar to an Airbnb experience. You must pay a security deposit equal to one month's rent, with an option for an advance deducted from your stipend over three to four months. Cuso International covers your monthly rent, while you are responsible for utilities (internet, water, electricity) using the monthly allowance.

Selection and Screening: Shortlisted candidates will need to confirm passport or permanent resident details for travel, provide two professional and one personal reference, and complete a language assessment during the initial phone interview. A satisfactory police check and medical clearance are required before departure. Candidates must also be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, comply with anti-terrorism checks, and agree to uphold the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy and Code of Conduct.

Training and Preparation: Volunteers receive thorough pre-placement, in-country and reintegration training, along with access to self-directed materials and online resources. These sessions prepare volunteers for cultural adaptation, safety, and effective engagement throughout the placement.

Residency and Citizenship: Candidates are responsible for confirming how volunteering internationally may affect their citizenship or residency status. Canadian Permanent Residents should verify requirements with Immigration Canada before travel.
