Position Overview:
The Commercial Manager is a key leadership role within Amico's Infrastructures division, responsible for overseeing all commercial, contractual, and financial aspects of major infrastructure projects. This role ensures effective cost control, risk management, contract administration, and commercial governance across the project lifecycle. The Commercial Manager works closely with project leadership, clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual obligations, financial targets, and corporate standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the commercial strategy for assigned infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives and Amico's corporate standards.
- Overseeing cost management activities including budgeting, forecasting, cashflow analysis, and financial reporting.
- Ensuring robust cost controls are implemented and adhered to across the project team.
- Monitoring project performance against financial targets, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Managing all contract-related matters for prime contracts, subcontracts, and supplier agreements.
- Interpreting contract terms and conditions to ensure project teams understand obligations, rights, and potential risks.
- Leading the preparation, submission, and negotiation of change orders, claims, and extensions of time.
- Ensuring all commercial correspondence, notices, and documentation meet contractual requirements.
- Conducting regular commercial risk assessments and maintaining risk registers.
- Identifying opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and commercial optimization.
- Collaborating with project and executive teams to implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Supporting procurement planning and tendering strategies for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Evaluating subcontract bids, commercial qualifications, and pricing structures.
- Overseeing subcontract negotiation, execution, and administration to ensure compliance and commercial performance.
- Serving as the primary commercial interface with clients, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Participating in project meetings, progress reviews, and commercial discussions.
- Building strong, collaborative relationships that support project success and future business growth.
- Providing commercial guidance, mentorship, and training to project and commercial staff.
- Promoting best practices in commercial management, contract execution, and financial governance.
- Fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- 8+ years of commercial management experience on large-scale infrastructure or heavy civil construction projects.
- Strong understanding of contract law, construction contracts (CCDC, P3, DB, DBFM, design-bid-build), and commercial frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and project financial management.
- Proven ability to manage change orders, claims preparation, and commercial negotiations.
- Advanced analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with cost management systems and project management software (e.g., Primavera, Procore, CMiC, or similar).
