The opportunity

This role within our Fawkner Cemetery involves the upkeep and general maintenance of the cemetery grounds by way of weeding, pruning, digging, raking, mulching, planting, spraying, hedging, edging, blowing, reticulation, mowing.

This work is fast paced, highly intensive and physically demanding and often involves working in adverse weather conditions. Communication, compassion and solid horticulture skills are key to success in this role.

This role is the entry level for the Cemetery Operations Officer - Horticulture role. New staff will complete a training needs analysis upon commencement and undertake training within their first 12 months of employment. Upon successful completion of a competency assessment at the end of their first 12 months, staff can progress to a Level 3.

To be successful in this position you will require:

• Experience in parks and gardens maintenance (or similar), including relevant plant and tool operation
• Current Victorian driver's licence (mandatory)
• Sound understanding of all aspects of grounds maintenance
• People-focused communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
