What you willdo as the AssistantDirector

Assistant Directorslead small teams conducting analytical activities that contributeto AER's purpose to make all energy consumers better off.Some positions within this general role require additional nicheexpertise or knowledge in order to operate effectively within theirspecific work context.

Assistant Directorsreport to a Director and operate with a reasonable level ofautonomy. They will perform some or all of the followingduties:

  • Lead a small teamconducting analytical activities, providing team members withclear direction, supervision and opportunities fordevelopment
  • Research,investigate and analyse relevant information and data todevelop insights, advice and recommended positions forconsideration by the AER Board
  • Design andfacilitate processes for consultation with stakeholders, andassess submissions from stakeholders on energy sectormatters
  • Prepare and overseethe preparation of written material, for example: issuespapers, regulatory determinations, reports, correspondence,briefings, guidelines, advices, speeches andsubmissions
  • Contribute to theplanning and management of projects in a geographicallydispersed work environment and provide team members with cleardirection and support
  • Represent theinterests of AER; develop and manage stakeholder relationshipswith industry bodies, Governments agencies (Commonwealth andState), consumer groups and internal stakeholders
  • Manage thecollection, use and storage of information associated with theAER's regulatory responsibilities in the energysector.

Aboutyou

Allcandidates are expected to meet the APSIntegratedLeadership Profile (ILS) for the classification advertised.Follow the link for more information on the ILS.This role inparticular requires a candidate with:

  • Demonstratedexperience leading a team in a fast-paced and large complexpeople-centered organisation that is geographicallydispersed.
  • Demonstratedexperience in researching, investigating and analysing relevantinformation and data to develop and present insights, adviceand recommended positions.
  • Well-developedwritten communication skills with proven ability in managingand preparing reports, meetings and othercorrespondence.
  • Well-developedinterpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate withand influence internal and external stakeholders to achieveoutcomes.
  • Well-developedproject management skills, including the demonstrated abilityto determine priorities and meet deadlines and work with highlevels of autonomy.
  • Well-developedunderstanding, or ability to quickly acquire an understandingof Australian energy markets and the role, purpose andobjectives of the AER.
  • Tertiaryqualifications in economics, corporate finance, law, publicpolicy, engineering or related fields.

Salary:$123,702 to $136,900 per annum (plus 15.4%superannuation)
