What you will do as the Assistant Director Network RegulationAssistant Directors in the Network Regulation Division report to a Director and operate with a high level of autonomy and contribute to the achievement of the AER's purpose to make all energy consumers better off, now and in the future. They lead teams that research, analyze, investigate, and develop solutions to complex problems in regulated sectors of electricity and gas networks.
Duties of an Assistant Director include:- Working with, and leading a small team conducting analytical activities, providing team members with clear direction, supervision, guidance, and opportunities for development.
- Contributing to the management and planning for complex and long-term projects, or aspects of projects.
- Researching, investigating, and analyzing relevant information and developing insights, advice, and recommended positions for consideration by the AER Board.
- Analyzing complex data sets to develop insights and advice, including through data visualisation tools such as Power BI.
- Designing and facilitating processes for consultation with stakeholders and assessing submissions from stakeholders on energy sector issues.
- Preparing written material, for example: issues papers, regulatory determinations, reports, correspondence, briefings, guidelines, advice, speeches, and submissions.
- Representing the interests of the AER; building and managing stakeholder relationships with industry bodies, Government agencies (Commonwealth and State), consumer groups and internal stakeholders.
- Managing the collection, use and storage of information associated with the AER's regulatory responsibilities in the energy sector.
In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience leading a team or similar role in a fast-paced and large complex people-centred organisation.
- A well-developed understanding, or ability to quickly acquire an understanding of Australian energy markets and the role, purpose, and objectives of the AER.
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate and convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to determine priorities and meet deadlines.
- An ability to research, investigate and analyze relevant information and data to develop and present insights, advice, and recommended positions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, including provide direction, support and coach employees while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Tertiary qualifications in economics, commerce, corporate finance, law, public policy, engineering, or related fields with at least 5 years post qualification experience.
In addition to the above, the following skills are highly desirable:
- Highly developed knowledge of MS Excel.
- Knowledge and/or experience in data management or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
- Knowledge and/or experience of competitive tender processes, particularly relating to the procurement of large infrastructure projects or ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.

Salary: EL1 - $123,702 - $136,900 per annum (plus 15.4% superannuation)
