Job Description

Under direction, the Senior Farm Machinery Mechanic will plan, organize and direct the operations of a farm machinery service garage; set up inspection and preventative maintenance schedules; maintain and repair of all types of light and heavy-duty agricultural equipment as outlined in the series concept; and establish and maintain shop safety procedures.

This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.

Pay Scale: $38.61/hour to $45.26/hour.

Key Responsibilities:

75%
  • Designs and fabricates specialized farm equipment and machines for field research projects.
  • Receive and assemble new farm machinery and make specific adjustments in accordance with operating specifications.
  • As a working supervisor, plans, assigns, and reviews all mechanical work performed by Farm Machinery Mechanics and makes difficult adjustments to farm equipment.
  • Repair and replace heavy duty components of hydraulic systems on farm equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical problems with agriculture equipment and vehicles.

20%
  • General facility maintenance
  • Maintenance of floors, painting, replacing air filters, light bulbs, cleaning, plumbing maintenance, windows and doors.

5%
  • Record keeping, scheduling of repairs and maintenance of all agriculture machinery and equipment used for research and stocking of maintenance supplies.

Requirements:
  • Four years of experience as a farm machinery mechanic; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • Knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
  • The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
